Spotify has made a recent change that impacts users of its free service. The ability to view song lyrics, once available to all users, is now exclusive to those who subscribe to Spotify Premium.
Reports from various Spotify users on platforms such as Reddit (via Android Authority) indicate that the feature has become a premium perk.
However, not all hope is lost for free-tier users who use lyrics. It seems there may be a monthly cap on accessing lyrics without a Premium subscription, though specifics on this limitation are not clear yet.

The free version of Spotify offers users the ability to stream music without a subscription fee, but it comes with several restrictions: advertisements play between tracks, there’s no option to download music for offline listening, and playback order cannot be controlled by the listener.
In addition to restricting certain features to its paid tier, Spotify has also recently raised the prices of its Premium subscriptions. From the previous Php129 per month, users in the Philippines are now charged Php149/month for solo accounts.
When comparing Spotify’s offerings to competitors, it’s worth noting the differences in business models. Tidal and Apple Music do not provide a free tier. On the other hand, YouTube Music does have a free tier, which, in some aspects, is less restrictive than Spotify. As of writing, YouTube Music‘s free tier still includes access to song lyrics.
