Fairphone, renowned for their commitment to sustainability with the repair-friendly Fairphone 5 smartphone, has introduced a new product that continues this ethos: a pair of wireless earbuds designed with reparability in mind. The latest offering, called Fairbuds, stands out by allowing users to replace not only the batteries in both the earbuds and their charging case but also various other components.
The Fairbuds are designed to extend their lifespan compared to the competition. Users can independently replace or repair each earbud, the silicone rings, the ear tips, as well as the outer shell and core of the charging case. This modular approach is a stark contrast to the industry standard, where earbuds are often discarded once their batteries degrade.
Adding to their appeal, Fairbuds come with a two-year warranty, which can be extended to three years with online registration. These earbuds don’t skimp on features either; they offer touch controls for volume and playback, up to six hours of battery life on a single charge (extending to 20 hours with the charging case), and are equipped with 11mm titanium-coated drivers.

For an enhanced audio experience, Fairbuds include active noise cancellation and environmental noise cancellation for clearer calls. The earbuds boast an IP54 rating for sweat and water resistance and have dual-point connectivity for ease of use. To top it off, there’s a dedicated app that allows users to tweak their sound preferences.
The difficulty in repairing and replacing the batteries in wireless earbuds is a significant contributor to electronic waste, as many users choose to replace rather than repair. Mainstream products from giants like Apple, Samsung, and JBL often end up in landfills after just a few years of use due to these challenges. Fairphone aims to challenge this norm with its repairable design.
Currently available only in Europe for €149, roughly $162, the Fairbuds are offered in both white and black. No word yet for an international release.
