Francisco Motors Corporation (FMC), one of the most prominent names in the Philippine automotive industry known for manufacturing passenger jeepneys, is ushering in the modern era by teasing an electric vehicle.

FMC Chairman Elmer Francisco posted a teaser on Facebook about its upcoming electric compact SUV, the FMC ELEKTRON. The company said that the new vehicle will be launched in the global market.

Francisco shared that their teams in California and China, together with their technology partners, have achieved major breakthroughs with the development of their first EV.

FMC shared a photo of what seems to be the interior of the upcoming vehicle. The design is noticeably sleek, with unique-looking aircon vents, a large infotainment screen, an LCD display for the tachometer, and a gear dial instead of the traditional gear shift.

Francisco boasted that they “never aimed to compete with existing EVs in the market” and they are not “playing by their rules.”

“Ang FMC ELEKTRON® ay hindi lamang sasakyan. Ito po ay simbolo ng bagong yugto ng industriyang Pilipino: mas malinis, mas matalino, mas makabayan, at mas handa para sa hinaharap,” he added.

We’re expecting more updates regarding the first Pinoy-branded EV soon, so stay tuned.
