199jobs.com, the online job marketplace for Filipino freelancers, has announced on Facebook that they are shutting down after 11 years of operation.
The website allowed buyers and sellers to connect and transact for services like writing and editing, admin work, design, video and audio, and even digital marketing, with 199jobs acting as a middleman.
The site would become a popular Philippine alternative or add-on to household freelancing job marketplaces, such as Upwork, Fiverr, and OnlineJobs.ph.
As the site’s name suggests, people can buy and sell freelancing services starting at only Php199. However, after over a decade, the Php199 starting price (minus fees) may have already been too low and unsustainable for freelancers, which may have contributed to their decline.
Here’s their official announcement on Facebook:

- How to safely do your remote work from a coffee shop
- 12 part-time job opportunities in the Philippines
199jobs was founded in 2013 by Fitz Villafuerte, founder of the Ready to Be Rich blog, and Glenn Santos of memokitchen. This site would soon become a common entry point or primary avenue for many Filipino freelancers looking to find a freelancing gig.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the transition of 199jobs, you can connect with their Facebook team, which will remain available until December 1, 2024.
