The iMac is finally getting a design refresh since 2012. More than that, Apple’s all-in-one machine is switching to the company’s own M1 chip.

This new iMac 24-inch model now has an ultra-thin 11.5mm design. But for some reason, the thick chin was kept. We also thought Apple would be bringing its lucrative Pro Display XDR stand on this thing. Instead, we’re getting a fairly standard one that may only do tilt. No height adjustment.

The main attraction here is the lively color option, reminiscent of the iMac G3 from the ’90s. Each color option comes in two hues. The one on the front is lighter, while the back is darker. Albeit, some of the colors are exclusive to the mid and high-tear models.

Each color option will come with a matching keyboard and mouse. Speaking of which, the keyboard that comes with the mid and high-tier models has TouchID — the first external Apple keyboard to have it.

Meanwhile, the poor charging placement of the Magic Mouse is here to stay.

Like the new iPad Pro and Macbooks, the 24-inch iMac will be powered by Apple’s own M1 chip. It should offer blazing performance thanks to its seamless integration with Big Sur.

Possibly one much-awaited upgrade is the FaceTime camera, which is finally at 1080p. Paired with its triple studio-quality microphones, it should be useful for video calls to recording music. That’s what Apple claims, at least.

The front camera is sitting on top of the iMac’s 24-inch 4.5K Retina screen.

Apple also rigged it with six speakers, consisting of two pairs of force-canceling woofers and pairs of tweeters. Apple claims it’s enough to fill a room.
