Three years after its release, it appears that Windows 11 is finally surpassing its predecessor, Windows 10, as the most-used operating system — at least among Steam users.
For a couple of months, Windows 11 has been closing the gap on Windows 10 in Valve’s Steam survey results. It has finally taken over the top spot this August 24 as it now has a 49.17% user share, versus the former’s 47.09%. That’s an impressive 3.36% improvement.
Bear in mind that the Steam survey only uses data from users who opt-in. According to data by Statcounter, the global share of Windows 11 is at 31%, only about half of Windows 10’s.
But, data shows that Windows 11’s numbers have been steadily increasing since April while Windows 10’s figures are finally dropping.

The survey also shows the best-performing GPUs in August 2024 and surprisingly, the top four of them are all made for laptops: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060, RTX 3060, RTX 4050, and RTX 4070.
Meanwhile, those who opt-in on the survey show that the RTX 3060 is still the most popular GPU, despite losing -0.37%. The biggest gainer is the RTX 4060 laptop GPU at second spot, which recorded a 1.34% increase.
