Cartoon Network’s website that lets fans watch shows has been shut down.

According to Variety, Warner Bros. Discovery has removed all the content from cartoonnetwork.com and redirected users to Max (formerly HBO Max), the company’s subscription-based streaming platform. The shutdown happened last Thursday, August 8, 2024.

On the Max landing page, there’s a pop-up that says “Looking for episodes of your favorite Cartoon Network shows? Check out what’s available to stream on Max (subscription required.”

A statement from a Cartoon Network spokesperson to Variety states that they are focusing on the “Cartoon Network shows and social media where we find consumers are the most engaged and there is a meaningful potential for growth.”

The spokesperson also noted that they will continue airing Carton Network shows on linear TV from 6 AM to 5 PM daily.

Upon checking here in the Philippines, cartoonnetwork.com redirects to cartoonnetworkasia.com and is still accessible, but none of the shows uploaded are playable and only show a black screen. Max is yet to be available in the Philippines with HBO Go as an alternative.

The shutdown is reportedly a cost-cutting move for Warner Bros. Discovery and possibly also a way to promote its streaming service. A few months ago, the company also removed a bunch of content on Comedy Central’s website and pulled out archives of MTV News and CMT from the web.
