Axie Infinity has become so popular that it even has its own esports event.

The Axie Esports 2021 was first announced on July 15 when it was still looking for community-backed tournament proposals. Back then, the esports organizers were only planning for up to 15 events. But upon noticing the huge demand, over 31 events are now approved as part of Axie Esports 2021. More events are expected to be announced for Q3 and Q4 2021, specifically in December.

Spread across the different events are Axie Infinity Shards as prizes, with a total of 5,560 of these cryptocurrency tokens to be given away. In today’s exchange rate, an AXS is worth ~Php3,600, which means the entire prize pool is worth over $400,000.

Currently, Axie Infinity developer Sky Mavis is using a dedicated server for the Axie Esports 2021. The company says this is only a temporary solution as they’re in the process of upgrading their main game servers.

The first official event, called Axie E1337 Open #2, is set to start on August 21. Every week thereafter will have one or two tournaments across different regions all over the globe. For Southeast Asia, the earliest event is the Yield Guild Open on August 28.

You can see the complete list of the Axie Esports 2021 events here, along with how many AXS are given as prizes.

Many, if not all, of these events have free entries, so there’s nothing stopping you to be part of Axie Infinity’s esports and play-to-earn economy.
