Video game company Moonton is bringing back its official Mobile Legends: Bang Bang league in the Philippines for Season 12. Eight local teams will take their best shot at securing the championship, and the top two teams will earn a spot in the M5 World Championship later this December.
What is new in MPL PH Season 12?
Unlike the previous season, the regular season of MPL PH Season 12 is set to span six weeks instead of eight. This adjustment is apparently to give tournaments by third-party organizers their time in the spotlight. It will also help the league prepare for the M5 World Championship, as the Philippines will be the host country.
MPL PH Season 12 Teams
As Season 12 is still using the same franchise system since Season 8, the eight teams we’ve known over the years are back albeit some with name changes:
Blacklist International
AP.Bren
ECHO
Minana EVOS
Omega Esports
ONIC Philippines
RSG Philippines
TNC Pro Team
Perhaps the most notable of the bunch is ECHO, having won MPL PH Season 11 and establishing their position as the defending champions. They’ve retained their core lineup that clinched victory in the M4 World Championship.
MPL PH Season 12 Schedule
The regular season is set to begin on September 8 and end on October 15. The format follows a double round-robin in which every team faces against all other teams twice. The playoffs will follow shortly after the regular season and end by October 29.
Per an August 16 tweet by MPL Philippines, the regular season will be held at the same venue as the previous season—the Shooting Gallery Studios at Makati City. The playoffs venue has not been announced yet.
Team rankings will be updated here as soon as they are available. Each match of the regular season is contested in a best-of-three format, with any team that manages to get a clean 2-0 victory earning 3 points. A 2-1 win translates to 2 points, whereas a 1-2 loss is given one point. A 0-2 defeat has no points.
The six teams with the most points from the regular season will qualify for the playoffs, which will have a mix of single and double elimination matches. All matches are played in a best-of-five format, except for the best-of-seven grand final.
The MLBB league champion will receive $35,000, the lion’s share of the $150,000 prize pool. Prizes will also be given to teams and players based on their performance.
