The 31st Southeast Asian Games opened with many countries hoping to topple the Philippines from its defending champion position in esports at three golds, one silver, and one bronze from the 2019 event.

But the country appears to have lost its chance for another pair of medals following the country’s contingent Sibol’s devastating defeats in FIFA Online 4 and League Legends: Wild Drift.

First to experience the loss is the men’s Wild Drift squad who failed to secure a single victory in a match of four, subsequently losing its competitive edge in the preliminary round.

Those in the FIFA Online 4 division were not successful either after failing to win against host Vietnam in all matches.

It is not yet completely hopeless, however. The Philippine team’s women squad still has their chance at redeeming where their male counterparts have failed.

UPDATE: The Wild Rift women’s team started with a bang and managed to get 4-0 on their first day.

Meanwhile, six Sibol squads remain in wait for the opening of the competition in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, League of Legends, CrossFire, Free Fire, Arena of Valor, and PUBG.
