The trailer for the new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is now out and introduced new two professors and three monsters. One new character already captured a lot of people’s attention, a little piggy called Lechonk.
Filipinos and those who live in Latin America already know what Lechon means. It is a suckling pig that’s been roasted in its entirety. The name Lechonk is an obvious wordplay from that and the word “chonk”.

The new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet appear to be inspired by the Iberian Peninsula. Lechonk, as well as another new monster named Smoliv, are said to be real delicacies from Iberian. There’s also a third monster called Pawmi.
It’s no surprise that Lechonk is already garnering fans. I mean, look at it! It’s a cute little rounded creature with small feet, pink those, sleepy eyes, and a wide pointy nose.

As per Pokémon, Lechonk “uses its sense of smell to find and eat only the most fragrant wild grasses.”
More than being chonk, he also stronk as he’s body is apparently “mostly muscle.”

The company explains that, despite its tank strength, Chonk is pretty timid — just like the real animal it was based on. The monster would apparently “charge forward in a panic” when someone attacks him.

For the specs heads out there, you ought to know that Lechonk is under the hog category, weighs 22.5lbs (around 10.2kg), is 1’8″ tall, and has aroma veil/gluttony abilities.
Ninteno Switch users can get the new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet starting November 18.
