The popular life simulation video game series, The Sims, is set for a big-screen adaptation, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The film will be under the direction of Kate Herron, known for her work on Season 1 of Disney+‘s “Loki” and the first four episodes of Netflix‘s “Sex Education.” Herron is also slated to co-write the screenplay for this adaptation.

Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, which she operates with Josey McNamara, Sophia Kerr, and Tom Ackerly, is lined up to produce the movie. They’ll be collaborating with Miri Yoon and Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment, together with Electronic Arts (EA), the company behind the game itself.

As of now, specific details about the film’s storyline or characters are yet to be revealed, keeping fans in suspense about the cinematic translation of the game’s experience.

The Sims, created by the renowned game designer Will Wright, who also created 1989’s groundbreaking SimCity, first graced computer screens in early 2000. Celebrating over twenty years, which includes a series of sequels and expansion packs, The Sims has sold more than 200 million copies worldwide, cementing its status as one of the top-selling video game franchises in history.

This is not the first instance where there was an attempt to bring The Sims to life through film. In 2007, Fox started working on a live-action adaptation of the game. However, the project did not materialize, remaining in development without progress for over ten years until it was officially canceled in 2019 following the merger between Disney and Fox.
