Mobile Legends is one of the most popular mobile games in the Philippines, with players of all ages flocking to the Classic, Ranked, and Brawl games. However, there is a less popular mode in the game that I believe every ML player should try – the Magic Chess.

At first, you would think that Magic Chess is an actual variation of the classic board game, but it’s not. Magic Chess combines strategy, foresight, adjustment, and individual tactics for you to win – no teamwork is necessary.

Here are some reasons why every ML player should try Magic Chess:

1. It’s a challenging strategy game

Unlike the regular Classic, Brawl, and Ranked Game modes that rely on teamwork and communication, Magic Chess differs since it uses a one-versus-all winner-take-all multiple round-robin format. So, in every round, you’ll fight a different player who is using a different strategy, and you will have to know how to counter each player differently.

The most important part of the game that will determine winning and losing is how you will strategically build your team’s synergy, which is divided into roles and factions. Roles include:

  • Weapon Master
  • Summoner
  • Guardian
  • Archer
  • Elementalist
  • Swordsman
  • Mage
  • Gunner
  • Wrestler

On the other hand, the factions are based on each hero’s lore and background stories. Factions include:

  • Nature Spirit
  • Astro Power
  • Ablaze Bounties
  • Cadia Riverlands
  • SABER
  • Prince
  • Forsaken Light
  • Northern Vale
  • Necrokeep
  • Wyrmslayer Warrior
  • Mystic Bureau

You must also learn about buying the great commander, budgeting your in-game gold, choosing the right skills and equipment, positioning, and adjusting your team’s build based on which heroes will randomly appear for your recruitment.

2. You can play it while doing other stuff

Unlike the regular game modes of Mobile Legends that require you to hold on to your phone for ten to twenty minutes at a time while playing, Magic Chess allows you to play the game even when you’re doing other things, like eating, watching TV, or in a boring class or meeting.

It also doesn’t require close supervision since you can only move and buy new heroes during the preparation phase. Your skill will also determine how long you’ll play since the losers will be eliminated at different rounds and be out of the game earlier than the contenders.

3. It’s more relaxing

Many ML players will agree that the most toxic part of playing ML is not losing the game but the trash talkers, feeders, and weak players on your side (unless you’re one of the toxic players).

Since Magic Chess is an individual game, you only have to be accountable for your strategy while hoping for more luck. There are also no toxic chat boxes since everyone will be busy finalizing their strategy every preparation phase; there is no time to chat.

4. It can be your substitute game or losing streak breaker

If you’re looking for a new game to try as a substitute for ML’s battle arena games, then Magic Chess is right for you. You will have the advantage of still knowing about hero names, skills, and appearance, but the gameplay will be very different.

You can also keep gathering rewards and participate in events to collect heroes and skins. And like a momentum breaker, you can also play Magic Chess while on a losing streak.

5. It’s fun

Most importantly, Magic Chess is very fun to play. It combines many aspects of a strategy game you can play independently. It can even be a stand-alone game since it has a different gameplay than the Classic and Ranked Games. You can also play this as a friendly or competitive game with your friends. However, the game will end differently for each player, especially if you’re winning.

Magic Chess can be intimidating at first, especially while discovering the game’s rules and strategies. However, as you learn the ropes, you can slowly increase your rank and even choose Magic Chess over the ranked and classic games.
