The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is joining the AI movement. It is set to release its first artificial intelligence (AI) model to help Filipinos with the government’s day-to-day activities.

In an article published in the Inquirer, DICT Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) Deputy Executive Director Asst. Sec. Mary Rose Magsaysay said the agency is already training the prototype for the Philippine National AI (PNAI), the country’s AI tool.

The PNAI will be capable of providing geolocations, real-time assistance for citizens, information gathering, reporting crimes, and more.

“This one, the Philippines’ first national AI, will be something that is based on our culture, trained by the Filipinos, having all the laws of the Philippines, having all the issuances of the Philippine government,” said Magsaysay.

The AI model is also said to be trained on various Philippine language groups and local data, which means the results will be more relevant to the Filipino context.

The CICC official also reiterated that the PNAI is a work in progress and that they are actively recruiting other government agencies to help develop the proprietary AI tool.

The department plans to publicly launch the PNAI before President Bongbong Marcos’s 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 28, 2025.Since the product is still in development, it’s unclear how comparable it will be to the e-Gov AI chat of the eGov PH super app.
