The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) partners with fintech giant GCash to allow Filipinos to apply for a national ID and open a GCash account in one go in underserved localities through the co-location strategy PhilSys-On-Wheels.

The agreement aims to help Filipinos conveniently apply for their national ID and open a fully verified GCash account.

According to National Statistician and Civil Registrar General Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, the approach aims to make financial services more accessible for Filipinos.

Asst. Sec. Rosalinda Bautista also reiterated that the services would provide better access to other formal financial services for savings, payments, and loans through the GCash app.

“I believe our work with GCash will not only achieve its immediate goals but also serve as a model for future partnerships with other Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas-supervised financial institutions,” said Bautista.

“This co-location initiative with PSA aligns with our shared goal of extending financial inclusion to underserved communities by providing a venue to register for a national ID and open a GCash account at the same time,” said G-Xchange Inc. president and CEO Oscar Enrico Reyes Jr.

The partnership project is a collaboration between the PSA, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and select pilot partners like GCash.
