Championing the interest of online consumers and sellers alike, Senator Mark Villar said that Senate Bill No. 1846, otherwise known as the Internet Transactions Act of 2023, is aimed at the regulation of e-commerce transactions between consumers and digital platforms or e-marketplaces.

The bill also lays out the subsidiary liability of the online merchant or retailer, in cases of failing to fulfill its responsibilities to aggrieved consumers.

If signed into law, the Internet Transactions Act of 2023 will serve as the lawful basis for the legal repercussions of online scams and will provide safety measures for both merchants and consumers who participate in digital transactions.

Villar highlights the role of fellow senators in the amendments and adoptions of the Internet Transactions Act, stating also how it will ensure the “utmost safeguard” for consumers and merchants engaged in e-commerce.

In particular, Villar added that “through the ITA” both users and retailers are protected against online scams.

As it fights not just for the modulation of e-commerce transactions but also for the good of the consumers, Villar holds an optimistic view about the passing of the ITA into law.

Villar reiterated the role of the other senators concerning the amendments of the bill, which he claims to be a reflection of the Senate’s dedication to passing it into law.

Passing it into law would be a major boon to those who were victimized by e-commerce scams and fraudulent transactions, according to Villar.

The senator also wants to ultimately root out the schemes via ITA, stating that there is no place for scammers in the Philippines.
