Amazon Prime Video is planning to add advertisements during shows beginning in early 2024, adding itself to the list of streaming platforms to embrace ads as part of its growth.
Known for original and hit shows such as Fleabag, The Boys, and Good Omens, Amazon Prime Video will be debuting two subscription tiers as 2024 arrives—one with ads and another without.
While the price will remain the same at $14.99 per month, Prime membership of this pricing comes embedded with ads for US-based consumers. Meanwhile, for an additional $2.49 per month, Prime members in the same region could encounter an ad-free viewing experience. In the Philippines, susbcription starts at only Php149/month.
In a statement, Amazon said that it will be revealing the pricing in other countries at a later date.

The decision, per the company, boils down to “continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period [of] time”.
But despite having ads, Amazon is promising to have “meaningfully fewer ads” relative to other streaming TV providers and linear TV.
The US in addition to Canada, UK, and Germany will see the tiers roll out in 2024. Meanwhile, Australia, Mexico, Spain, Italy, and France will be included as well by the end of 2024.
Several weeks leading up to the full launch of the tiers in their respective regions, subscribers will receive an email, providing information on how to subscribe to the ad-free tier.
Recent years have seen a growing trend involving tier systems in a bid to keep the cost of subscriptions down while not compromising content.
