The LRT-1 Cavite Extension project continues to be on track to start partial operations in the last quarter of 2024, specifically as soon as October 2024.
According to Jonathan Gesmundo, an executive assistant at the Department of Transportation, the first five stations of the extension project are expected to be operational within the year. These are the Phase 1 stations of the extension project, starting from Redemptorist station to Dr. Santos station in Sucat. Gesmundo anticipates that the construction of the remaining stations leading to Cavite will be done by 2025.
Earlier this month, a general manager from the Light Rail Manila Corp — the private operator and maintenance provider of LRT-1 — reported at a press conference that the Phase 1 of the project was already 98 percent complete as of the end of April.

A total of eight new stations will be introduced to the existing 20 LRT-1 stations, extending the railway system by 11 kilometers. Gesmundo said that once fully operational, the extension is projected to accommodate up to 300,000 passengers daily. Phase 2 of the project includes the next two stations in Las Piñas and Zapote, and the final Phase 3 includes the Niog Station in Bacoor, Cavite.
The extension project will connect significant locations such as the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The Dr. Santos station will also serve as a multimodal transport hub, with other modes of transportation available for the convenience of commuters.
