The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) launched the Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System, a.k.a PhilGEPS, as part of the government’s effort to embrace digital transformation.

Launched at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City last Friday, DBM said that the PhilGEPS eMarketplace was designed to make the government procurement process more inclusive.

The platform simplifies the registration and bidding process so MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises) and other smaller businesses can participate.

As per DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, government agencies and procurement entities can simply ‘Add to Cart’ their common-use supplies and equipment (CSE). The products available will come from reputable and competent suppliers.

Pangandaman likens the platform to mainstream e-commerce platforms Shopee and Lazada, highlighting how simplified the process is. It is said that the procurement process will be shortened to 60 days from the previous 3 months.

The platform will also help fight corruption by verifying merchants and suppliers to ensure they meet the technical specifications and budget requirements of the procuring bodies.
