OPPO has launched a more powerful and more expensive variant of the F5 — the OPPO F5 6GB in Red. But how does it differ from its siblings? Let us share some of our initial impressions before we dive deeper into our full review.
Despite being the top-of-the-line model, the OPPO F5 6GB share the same box and packaging of the other F5 variants. The photo of the device is printed outside and sliding it reveals the inner cover with the OPPO logo elegantly placed on the top and sides. Opening it up reveals the F5 6GB wrapped in plastic.
The accessories included in the package is also the usual contents. There’s a thick manual, SIM ejector tool, earphones, micro USB cable, and wall adapter. I was hoping that the accessories would be tinted in red, but it’s just in plain white like the other models.
Booting up the handset reveals the exact same setup as its brothers: no custom wallpaper, no custom icons, or any other shenanigans as seen on special edition OPPO smartphones. It’s pretty much stock ColorOS v3.2, and there’s nothing wrong about it. It’s just that they could’ve added more spice if they at least went with a custom wallpaper and set of icons to match the fiery red physical appearance.
The handling feels the same, as expected because they have identical bodies. The difference can be found in the performance department, where the OPPO F5 in red shines with its larger 6GB of RAM. The storage has been doubled from 32GB to 64GB as well, so there’s more room to store media files like videos, photos, music and even applications.
4GB of RAM was already good enough for most use cases, but with 6GB it opens up even more possibilities. More apps and games can run in the background and there’s less reloading when multitasking. This is very helpful because users won’t have to redo what they’re doing as everything will be back where the user left off.
The cameras are also equipped with the company’s AI technology that enhances selfies taken with the device. Unlike previous OPPO handsets, the new AI Beauty mode offers significantly better photos because it recognizes the subject and applies the needed filters to improve it further.

The OPPO F5 6GB in Red will be available in the Philippines beginning next week, December 09, 2017. It’s priced at Php21,990 — Php5,000 more expensive than the standard F5 and Php7,000 more than the F5 Youth.
Are the upgrades worthy of the asking price? It depends on the users’ needs. But in my opinion, it’s better to get the regular F5 unless you really want the fiery red color variant. You can check out our full review of the standard F5 here.
