Have you ever heard about Smurfs? And no, it’s not the blue characters in the cartoons and movies. Smurfing in gaming, like in Mobile Legends, has been a controversial and sometimes frowned upon issue in the gaming community, and for good reason. Let’s take a look at what Smurfing is, why players do it, and how to create your own if you ever want one.
What is a Smurf account?
A Smurf account in Mobile Legends is a new or secondary account created by a higher-ranking player so he can play with lower-ranked players. Since he’s already a more experienced player playing against newbies, it’s no wonder why Smurfs don’t often sit well with many newbie ML players.
However, there are a bunch of reasons why someone would create a new account even if they already have one, and it’s not always just to feed their ego by preying on the weak.

Why do players want to create a smurf ML account?
1. Playing and boosting low-ranked friends
If a friend tries Mobile Legends for the first time and struggles, some old-timer players want to support them to move up the ranks quicker. However, due to rank differences, they would need to use a Smurf account to help boost their low-level friends since they can’t play ranked games with them using their primary account.
2. Increasing confidence
If you’re in a ten-game losing streak, it can be heartbreaking. You may also feel stressed whenever you lose a star. So, to regain confidence and get back on their winning ways, some players will change to their Smurf accounts and play against newbies that they will easily and completely dominate.
3. Testing out new heroes and strategies
Though you can also test new heroes and strategies using your main account, some players don’t like losing and decreasing their total win rate. So, they would change to their Smurf account and play a few games against weaker opponents to practice.
4. Avoiding demotions and having fun
Playing the ranked games on your own becomes increasingly harder as players rank higher, so you’ll usually want to play with friends or teammates to increase your chances of winning. However, when their usual teammates are unavailable but still want to play ranked, some players would change to their Smurf account and enjoy it a little.
5. To restart their MLBB accounts
Some players create Smurfs because they want a high win-rate account that they can only accomplish by creating a new one. Depending on how the first hundred games go, they may continue with that account or create a new one. Some players also sell their other accounts with rare skins, so they create a new account.
