Do you want to make your resumé more appealing to employers? Want to improve in a particular skill? Are you interested in a specific subject? Or, do you just want to add the name “University of the Philippines” to your credentials? Listen up.

The University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) offers different free online courses for anyone to take. From February 23, the UPOU Massive Open Distance e-Learning (MODeL) will be releasing 23 short courses and 5 extra multimedia courses.

Yes, you heard it right. The general public can take these courses — even if you’re not a UP student. The best part is, all of these courses are completely free.

UPOU said that the courses are self-paced, which is ideal for those who only want to do it on the side, especially if they have a day job or studying in school. Once the 16-hour training session is done, you’d be rewarded with an e-certificate that you can showcase in your profile.

Can I enroll in UPOU MODeL if I didn’t take UPCAT?

Yes. As said earlier, anyone is welcome to register for any of these courses, even if you’re not a UP student. All you have to do is register and you’ll get free access to the online courses.

How much is the enrollment fee?

The courses are completely FREE and open to anyone — from students to working professionals, regardless if they are in the Philippines or not.

How long does each course last?

Each course runs for (3) three to (8) eight weeks and you need 16 hours to complete them.

The courses are self-paced, but after the designated timeline, the courses will be hidden to limit delayed output submissions. The UPOU rarely provides extensions unless the course coordinator decides so.

Is there a completion certificate?

Yes. After completing the courses online, students will be given an e-certificate for their achievement. It can be used as proof to show that the student has knowledge in certain fields.
