We’re seeing great signs of the internet situation in the Philippines further improving. NOW Telecom, an ISP currently only operating in Metro Manila, eyes to be the 4th telco player in the Philippines.

The only thing that’s prohibiting NOW Telecom to go big is their limited capacity to provide the required capital expenditure.

That has been resolved as the company has teamed up with HyalRoute Group, a Singapore-based firm. The group is willing to spend USD1-2 billion for fiber optic cable roll-out in the country.

HyalRoute will run their local investment through its subsidiary, Philippine Fiber Optic Cable Network Ltd. (PFOCN).

As per Rodolfo Pantoja, NOW Telecom president, the fiber backbone provided by HyralRoute-PFOCN will allow them to replicate the “guaranteed throughput broadband services” that they are offering in Metro Manila.

Besides fiber, the company also aims to offer 5G connectivity to the people with up to 20GBps of speeds.

NOW Telecom’s bid to become the 4th telco player is just one of the signs that the internet in the Philippines is further improving.

A couple of weeks ago, Mislatel finally got their license to operate as the 3rd telco player in the country, and even renamed their brand to Dito Telecommunity.
