As part of Smart Communications’ initiative to boost the LTE speeds in the country, the leading telcommunications company just announced that they have improved Smart LTE services along Metro Manila.
In a press release, Smart indicated better mobile data speeds in the North Areas of NCR. This covers places like Quezon City, Caloocan, Valenzuela, Novaliches, Malabon, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Pasig, Manila, Makati, Pasay, and Marikina. An internal test suggests that Smart’s LTE service on these areas have average download speeds of 21.5Mbps.
The upgrade also has an impact to some areas in South NCR. As per Smart, areas such as Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Taguig, and Parañaque are averaging 14.4Mbps.
Smart’s internal tests are then backed by J.P. Morgan Asia Network Quality study. The firm suggests that the LTE availability in Metro Manila has improved by 63% when compared to the 43% score at the start of the year.
The improvement in Smart’s LTE service became possible because they are currently upgrading their cell sites to use the latest technology. As of today, Smart has already upgraded them with low-frequency bands like 700MHz and 850Mhz to provide good indoor coverage. They are also trying to implement high-frequency bands such as 1800MHz and 2100MHz to improve the cell sites’ capacity.
