SpaceX’s internet service is getting a new variant for those who want even faster and more reliable internet. Check out the aptly named Starlink Premium.

The new Starlink Premium features an identical sleeker-looking flat antenna that came out in November, but with better performance. It claims to offer speeds of 150Mbps up to a whopping 500Mbps with 20 to 40ms latency. That’s about twice as fast as the 50-250Mbps of the standard model.

It will also feature upload gains with speeds of 20Mbps up to 40Mbps, versus the standard variant’s 10Mbps to 20Mbps.

However, the Premium service also comes with a premium price, and it’s more than double that of the standard tier. The Starlink Premium antenna will have a whopping price of USD2,500 (around Php127,600), with the service costing USD500 (around Php25,500) per month. That’s noticeably higher than the standard’s USD499 antenna and USD99 monthly fee.

The price shouldn’t matter for its target market. As per the company, the premium tier is for small offices, storefronts, and “super users across the globe.”

Possibly the reason behind the ludicrous prices is its reliability. As per the company, the Premium tier can perform better even in “extreme weather conditions”. Customers will also get special treatment as they’ll be given 24/7 priority support.

Interested buyers can now reserve for a unit with a USD500 deposit. Shipping starts in Q2 of 2022.
