Waze

Two things that make people wary with online navigation are concerns about mobile data charges, and spotty signal in some areas. While we’re a long way from never having to experience the latter, Smart made it one step closer on fixing the former.

Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) and Digitel Mobile Philippines, Inc. (DMPI) announced today their partnership with Waze, a highly popular online social navigation app that can provide you with accurate traffic and road conditions via feedback from fellow drivers also using the app.

From this partnership, we get a more affordable mobile data plan when using Waze. These mobile plans are available to all Smart, Talk ‘N Text, and Sun postpaid and prepaid subscribers. While they haven’t unveiled the mobile plan schemes for postpaid (will be announced later this month), they did give out details for prepaid, with affordable packages going for as low as PhP2 for three hours to packages for constant users at PhP99 a month. For the 3-hour use (PHP 2.00), you just need to text WAZE2 to 211. The other packages are: for one day (WAZE5), seven days (WAZE30) and one month (WAZE99). That’s an amazing deal, IMHO.

You will need to download the Waze version for Smart via the Smart Net services, though. Like the one in the Google Play Store, it’s also free. For now, hit the source link for more information from Smart.

  1. Turning off the background data on your phone doesn’t guarantee that all
other apps will stop connecting to the net. Sadly, I experienced this.
Lost all my load to Smart at P5/15mins. Very disappointing promo. Be careful.
