Although Asus is quite focused on the ZenPad and second-gen ZenFone series, it hasn’t forgotten about the original ZenFone series that jumpstarted the company’s success and influence in the mobile market. The company has started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the ZenFone 4, ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 6.
The update is rolled out over the air, so owners should receive notifications in their devices to download and upgrade to the newer Android version. Alternately, if they can’t wait to receive the notification, they can also manually download the update from the official Asus ZenTalk forum.
The Android 5.0 Lollipop update introduces several improvements to the original ZenFone trio, which initially came with 4.3 Jelly Bean preinstalled and then received a 4.4 KitKat upgrade sometime last year. These improvements include a revamped lockscreen, a new dialer and contacts interface, new apps and enhanced call and music functionality. Because of compatibility issues, Asus has had to remove pre-installed apps. These include the battery widget, Cloud Print and Magic Smoke Wallpapers.
Asus suggests backing up SD card data before upgrading to 5.0 Lollipop, especially since the update renders the phones unable to support the NTFS format for the card.
