MediaTek has unveiled its latest chipset, the Dimensity 9300+ SoC, which the company says will boost the performance of flagship smartphones.

Offering faster clock speeds and support for advanced on-device generative AI processing, the new chip is touted for its improved performance and efficiency in large language model (LLM) processing.

JC Hsu, a senior vice president at MediaTek, says the Dimensity 9300+ will help build a robust ecosystem for generative AI applications. Equipped with the company’s new NeuroPilot Speculative Decode Acceleration technology, the chip is capable of running LLMs with seven billion parameters at 22 tokens per second, or twice the rate of competing mass-market solutions.

The Dimensity 9300+ makes use of what MediaTek calls an all-big-core architecture using TSMC’s 4nm process. A single Arm Cortex-X4 core is integrated in the chip that operates up to 3.4GHz. Alongside it are three Cortex-X4 cores with a max clock speed of 2.85GHz and four Cortex-A720 of up to 2.0GHz. In comparison, the predecessor Dimensity 9300 has the same sets of cores, but its four Cortex-X4 cores only operate up to 3.25GHz.

In terms of gaming, the Dimensity 9300+ incorporates a second-generation hardware raytracing engine coupled with a 12-core Arm Immortalis-G720 GPU. Mediatek claims this feature enables players to experience fast raytracing with console-quality visual effects while maintaining a smooth 60FPS framerate.

Other notable features of the Dimensity 9300+ include support for Wi-Fi 7, a 5G R16 modem, and a network observation system that optimizes network usage while helping reduce power and cellular data consumption.
