Samsung has recently announced that it will be bringing a range of One UI 6.1 camera features to older flagship Galaxy smartphones. These features include an upgraded Single Take mode, improved long-exposure, and others. This news comes shortly after the unveiling of the Galaxy S24 series, which introduced additional camera functionalities through One UI 6.1. Finally, Samsung has confirmed that some new features will also be available on older Galaxy devices.

One of the notable improvements is the enhanced Single Take mode, which now allows users to select the zoom level from ultrawide, 1x, 3x, 5x, 10x before capturing an image. This is a significant improvement over the previous versions of Single Take, which did not provide any options. Moreover, the updated mode offers better results by default and includes pet recognition, ensuring improved videos and images of pets.

This enhanced Single Take mode will be available on various devices, including the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Flip 4 and 5, Galaxy Z Fold 4 and 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 tablets.

Another feature being introduced is a more convenient way to capture long-exposure shots. Users of older Samsung handsets will now have the option to capture a long-exposure version of a photo using the edit feature in the Gallery app. However, the image must initially be shot with Motion Photo enabled. This functionality is reminiscent of the long-exposure feature found on iPhones, where the device suggests a long-exposure version of a Live Photo. This new feature provides a more user-friendly way to capture long-exposure photos on Galaxy devices compared to using the actual long-exposure or Pro mode.

Samsung has revealed that this capability will be available on the Galaxy S22, S23, Z Flip 4 and 5, Z Fold 4 and 5, and Tab S9 series.

Additionally, Samsung has introduced the ability to choose a specific frame from a Motion Photo and utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) upscaling to transform it into a 12-megapixel representative photo. While the list of supported devices that will support this upscaling feature has not been disclosed, it is expected that any device running One UI 6.1 will be compatible.

In terms of image editing, One UI 6.1 now includes a colorization feature that allows users to add estimated colors to black-and-white as well as grayscale images. This feature will be available on the Galaxy S24 series and other unspecified devices running One UI 6.1.

Furthermore, Samsung has launched cross-device video editing, enabling users to start editing a video on one Samsung device using the Studio editing app and continue the process on another, such as a tablet and PC. This feature will be available on the Galaxy S24 and select devices compatible with One UI 6.1.

Lastly, Samsung has unveiled that HDR videos captured using social media apps’ built-in cameras or the Samsung camera can now be viewed in HDR within the social media apps. This functionality applies to the social apps’ built-in gallery, although it remains unclear if it extends to the apps’ news feed. This capability will be available on the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Galaxy Z Flip 5.
