Qualcomm has taken the wraps off of its follow-up to the Snapdragon 800. Known as the Snapdragon 805, this new mobile processor is capable of graphics and image processing at Ultra HD (4K) resolution. Its chipset is also jam-packed with better memory, more efficient LTE modem, and the new Adreno 420 GPU.

In a nutshell, the Snapdragon 805 processor is Qualcomm’s best Snapdragon processor yet. Its blazing fast performance is largely thanks to the new Krait 450 CPU core, the first of its kind to reach frequencies of up to 2.5GHz per core.

The Adreno 420 GPU, on the other hand, renders a smoother user interface and gaming graphics at 4K resolution without compromising power efficiency. Finally, the Gobi 9×35 LTE modem supports the latest LTE Advanced technology, the speeds of which can reach up to 150Mbps.

Consumer devices running on the Snapdragon 805 are expected to become available in the first half of 2014.
