Marketing research firm IDC just revealed the top 5 smartphone companies that shipped the most units in the Philippines.

But before that, the IDC said that there had been a 3.1% decline in smartphone shipments in the Philippines compared to the second quarter of last year. Albeit, it did experience a 9.1% increase compared to last quarter.

According to Angela Mendez, Marketing Analyst from IDC Philippines, the rising prices of essential goods and staple foods will “continue to put pressure on consumer spending on smartphones”.

Still, Realme managed to ship the most handsets with a 21.8% market share and a quarter-on-quarter growth rate of 17.5%. IDC attributes the brand’s growth to the new Realme 9 series.

Taking the second spot is Transsion, the company behind Infinix and TECNO Mobile, which managed to pull an impressive 152.2% year-on-year growth, taking 20.5% of the market.

Xiaomi and Samsung come in at the third and fourth spot, with 14.6% and 11.8% market shares, respectively, followed by Vivo at number 5 owning 10.7% of the market.

“With telecommunications company PLDT recently announcing plans to shut down their 3G network by 2023, we may see a faster migration from feature phones or older smartphones to newer models that support 4G or 5G. Note that the number of 3G cellular subscribers in the Philippines are quite low at less than 5% of total subscribers,” Mendez added.
