Are you curious to know how your favorite smartphone brand performed in the Philippines last year? Market research and analytics firms IDC and Canalys have the details.
First, we have the data from IDC, which states that the Philippine smartphone market registered a positive 3.8% year-on-year (YoY) growth with 16.9 million units shipped in 2023. IDC said that the strong holiday sales and the top brand’s new line-up helped the market bounce back towards the end of the year.

Topping the list is Transsion, the company behind Infinix, TECNO, and Itel. While they did not provide a breakdown for the three brands, they attributed Transsion’s success, as a whole, to being well-positioned in the low-end segment.
Other than Transsion and vivo, the rest of the brands suffered a decline compared to the year before, with realme enduring the toughest decline at -26% but still maintaining the top 2 spot.
Canalys Research’s figures suggest the same positive news as the “price-sensitive Philippines market” has achieved the “most significant resurgence” after a staggering 32% YOY growth.

The firm also crowned Transsion as the number one with 38% units, albeit, realme is at the fourth spot while vivo, the only company that experienced growth, is at number 2. Xiaomi barely made it as it took the fifth spot.
As per Canalys, Transsion flourished and helped the local market bounce back by increasing the shipments of its Spark and Smart devices and “effectively utilizing social media platforms to promote its Phantom V Flip model.”
