Facebook and Instagram owner Meta considers charging European users a monthly fee for an ad-free experience.

It is said that the service will cost about USD14 (~Php800) per month on mobile devices and around USD17 (~Php1,000) for desktop users.

The proposal is Meta’s workaround for the European Union’s strict privacy rules. The said rules include requiring Meta to ask for their users’ consent before they can show targeted ads, which would have a huge impact on their advertising revenue.

As per the report, Meta already detailed their proposals with privacy regulators in Ireland, digital-competition agencies in Brussels, and other related government agencies in other EU regulators.

The said proposal is called “subscription no ads” or SNA and may roll out in the coming months on the said region.

It’s not clear how the said agencies responded, but they may suggest that Meta propose a cheaper price.
