In line with their announcement last January about making Facebook go for its true purpose – help us connect with each other, the Messenger application is going to launch its new feature dubbed as ‘Your Emoji’.

Alongside the current ‘My Day’ feature of Facebook Messenger, ‘Your Emoji’ lets you choose an emoji as your profile pic on the app for 24 hours so it can start a conversation and even hang-outs. It’s just letting your friends what you’re up to, instead of posting a lengthy and dramatic story.

Even though this new feature is a little similar to Down to Lunch, Signal, and Foursquare’s Swarm, proponents believe that it will not follow a flop pattern since Facebook Messenger is one of the most used apps in the world today.

According to a Messenger spokesperson, “We’re testing the ability for people to add an emoji to their profile photo in Messenger to let their friends know what they’re up to or how they’re feeling in the moment. We’re interested to see if people enjoy this feature, but we don’t have any additional information to share at this time.”

Facebook’s new undertaking is to continue the path in connecting each other through meaningful interactions and not inactive conversations. So if you happen to see a friend with a pizza ‘Your Emoji’, well, brace yourself and prepare for a pizza party.
