Popular social media platform Facebook is seeing notable changes by the end of the month as it announced on Thursday the pending removal of some of its features. Namely, Nearby Friends, Weather alerts, Location History, and Background Location.
After June 1, 2022, all user information used for the experiences will cease to be collected, even for those who enabled said features. However, anyone who would wish to download their Location History will still have until August 2, 2022, to do so via Access Your Information. Beyond this date, any information regarding Background Location and Location History that were previously shared will be deleted.

Facebook did not disclose the reason behind the move. But while this may sound like a good outcome to those who otherwise see the data-collection process as invasive, the social media claims that it will still gather “location formation” of users but “for other experiences”.
