Coursera has announced several new courses, certificates, and skills training on Generative AI (GenAI) amid rising global demand for experts on artificial intelligence.
Among the new GenAI-focused offerings by Coursera are seven new courses and specializations in partnership with institutions such as DeepLearning.AI, IIT Guwahati, and various universities in the US. Topics covered by these courses include software development, AI ethics, and the business impact of AI.
Eight of Coursera’s entry-level professional certificates have been updated to incorporate GenAI-focused content. The credentials, which are issued by IBM, Microsoft, and Meta, are designed for aspiring data analysts, cybersecurity analysts, social media managers, and full stack software developers.
Coursera has also expanded GenAI Academy, its collection of AI-related courses for the workforce that it launched in January 2024, with courses aimed at encouraging innovation and boosting productivity across functional teams. The AI-powered Coursera Coach is now available as an integrated sidebar in the platform to provide real-time guidance and support for leaners.
In the ASEAN region, Coursera cited a recent report by AWS indicating employers are willing to pay 36 percent more for workers with experience in AI. The online course provider also revealed that its GenAI enrollment quadrupled from 2023 to 2024, with at least 2 enrolments every minute this year and more than 2 million enrolments worldwide overall.
Of those GenAI enrollments, 13,000 are from the Philippines, or a 642-percent year-on-year increase in the country. Filipino millennials are leading in GenAI reskilling and make up 58 percent of these enrollments. Courses taken include introductory courses to GenAI and prompt engineering for ChatGPT.
