Google Career Certificates, the tech giant’s online training and certification program for entry-level professionals, is now offering a course in cybersecurity.
Under the new program, individuals will learn and gain qualifications necessary for a career in cybersecurity, with possible job titles such as security analyst and security operations center analyst. Anyone aged 18 and above can enroll, learn at their own pace, and finish the course online within a six-months timeframe. No degree or prior experience is required.
The Google Cybersecurity Certificate curriculum and content were developed by Google experts and endorsed by employers in the industry. Specifically, the program consists of eight courses on Coursera that cover security risks, networks, threats and vulnerabilities, detection and response, and other topics relevant to cybersecurity.

Individuals in the program will learn via hands-on experience and gain hard skills such as the Python programming language, the Linux operating system, intrusion detection systems, and security information and event management tools. Google says the program will also help learners prepare for the CompTIA Security+ exam, completion of which comes with a widely recognized certification.
After finishing the program, individuals will be part of sought-after cybersecurity professionals tasked with protecting critical infrastructure. According to Google, there is a projected global shortage of 3.5 million cybersecurity workers through 2025.
Other notable programs offered by Google Career Certificates include data analytics, project management and UX design. For Filipinos, financial aid is available from program partners such as the Department of Information and Communications Technology and Globe Telecom.
