Apple just held a big event and showcased its latest operating systems for 2021. One of them is the iPadOS 15.

The recent iPad Pros are almost as powerful as the MacBooks. However, the limitations of the software can’t take full advantage of their powerful processors. This is one of the key issues that Apple is trying to address with iPadOS 15.

There are a lot of new features that are coming to the iPads’ next big update. Today, we want to take a look at the standout ones.

Multitasking

iPadOS is becoming more and more robust for multitasking — which is honestly why people prefer it over iOS. With the iPadOS 15, Apple is taking it a step further.

It now has a new Multitasking menu where you can choose from full-screen view, Slide Over, Split View, and in select scenarios, a center window, allowing users to use multiple apps simultaneously.

When picking a multitasking layout, users can now access the Home Screen to pick the right app to multitask with.

App Switcher is also present, where users can create Split View spaces in one screen.

Keyboard shortcuts

iPad is a more compact alternative to a MacBook, and with the new keyboard shortcuts, Mac users will feel right at home.

It should work with Apple’s expensive Magic Keyboard for iPad. No word yet if keyboard shortcuts are compatible with third-party accessories.

Universal Control

Here’s a cool new feature if you’re deep into the Apple Ecosystem. You can use a single keyboard, mouse, and/or trackpad simultaneously between an iPad and Mac. It can also work with more than one of the same device.

When switching, you can simply move the cursor from your Mac to your iPad.

Quick Note

A feature we’ve seen on Android phones for years. iPad users can now take Quick Note anywhere from the screen. It can be summoned from the Control Center, keyboard shortcut, or by swiping up from the corner using an Apple Pencil or a finger.

Not just handwritten notes, it can also accommodate Safari highlights, tags, mentions, and more. Quick Notes can be viewed from the Notes app.

Swift Playgrounds

Swift Playgrounds are gaining new capabilities with iPadOS 15. There’s the new SwiftUI that allows developers to create apps easily. It also has improved code completion and will allow users to submit their work directly to the App Store.

These are just the new features exclusive to iPadOS. Meanwhile, new tricks that are coming to iPhones with iOS 15 will also be available to iPads. There’s the new SharePlay, grid view, spatial audio, mic modes, and call scheduling on FaceTime.

Improved Messages and Memoji, Focus modes, revamped notifications, and more. You can take a look at these features here.
