A university in the Philippines is launching a new degree program aimed at fighting online threats. Mapúa University will start its Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity program at the start of the 2026 to 2027 school year.

The school decided to create this course because more and more companies and government offices need people who can protect their computer systems from hackers and data breaches.

Unlike other IT degrees where cybersecurity is just a small part of the lessons, this program focuses only on security. Students will learn how to analyze threats, defend digital networks, and investigate cybercrimes using computer forensics. The whole course takes three years and one quarter to finish.

Ariel Kelly Balan, who leads the university’s School of Information Technology, said the program was built to fill a serious gap in the job market. He explained that data is growing faster than ever and needs to be protected like a valuable resource.

To make sure the program meets global standards, Mapúa worked with outside certification groups like CompTIA and EC-Council. These groups helped shape the lessons so that graduates can work anywhere in the world.

After finishing the degree, Filipino students can apply for jobs like security analyst, ethical hacker, cybersecurity engineer, or digital forensics expert. These positions are in high demand both inside the country and overseas.
