Drones in Italy are being used particularly for signs of COVID-19. Among countries in Europe, Italy is one of the most hard-hit by the virus. This is one of their initiatives to practice safety among the people.

A single drone (called the Bergamo drone) would hover around, catching people who are deemed to violate the rules imposed during the pandemic. Heat sensor is used to take the violator’s temperature then send the results back to the drone’s operator. This operator ensures the drone’s doing its job via a hand-held screen where a thermal map is installed.

What if the drone is not accurate or makes mistakes? No worries. Matteo Copia, a police commander from Treviolo, assures that they could still stop the caught victim and personally check on their temperature using the thermometer.

Italy was the first in the Western democracy to approve a national lockdown. This was a response towards a disease that had already killed more than 18, 000 in the country alone.
