GCash, one of the biggest e-wallet services in the Philippines and available in many countries abroad, is set to expand to more markets after it got a go signal from the central bank.

Last Friday, GCash said that it received approval from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to operate in ten more countries such as:

  • South Korea
  • Taiwan
  • Singapore
  • Hong Kong
  • Spain
  • Germany
  • Qatar
  • Kuwait
  • Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • United Arab Emirates

This adds to the growing list of countries where GCash is available, which includes the United States, Italy, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Japan. This means that GCash is now available in 16 countries around the world, and we expect more markets to be added to the list as soon as the company pushes its expansion.

“With around 13 million Filipinos living abroad, we recognize and answer the need for them to be present for their families back home and remain in control of helping build the financial future of their loved ones,” said G-Xchange Inc. CEO Oscar Reyes Jr., operator of GCash.

Those who are in the listed countries can create a GCash account using their international mobile numbers. They can then use their Philippine passport or other Philippine valid ID as proof of identity.
