GCash recently launched a new feature in their app that allows users to secure their transactions just by adding Php30. This would ensure that money sent through GCash will come through safely in case of fraudulent actions.

However, because it was only released a few days ago, a lot of people are still confused about how Send Money Protect works, especially when there is various misleading information spreading on the internet and social media.

What is the “Send Money Protect” by GCash?

According to GCash’s post on their official Facebook page, Send Money Protect was created to ensure that possible victims of social engineering and online shopping fraud are avoided.

What Send Money Protect does NOT include are:

  • Additional payment per transaction

GCash promises that the Php30 payment is a one-time fee to protect all transactions for up to Php15,000, valid for one month.

  • Refundable money

We want to clarify that this feature will not unsend or refund money within 30 days. Policy conditions, GCash states, still apply.

If you are an online seller, Money Protect is an insurance product for shoppers in case of scams, NOT a way get an automatic refund. Customers will not be able to make a reversal for their transactions if there’s no fraudulent activity.

  • Wrong number/receiver reversal

Send Money Protect does not cover transactions sent by mistake to the wrong phone number or receiver. If this happens, it’s better to contact GCash’s customer service to explore your options.

What happens if a user requests a refund within 30 days?

Even if GCash stated 30 days for requesting refunds, there is no guarantee that you will get your money back.

Besides, this requires a long process before getting a refund, which includes filing a claim through Ginsure and then submitting documents such as a Police Report from the PNP Cybercrime Unit. You also need to file a blotter report within 72 hours to validate your report. After that, you will have to wait around five to seven days for the initial processing of your claim.

Once all of the above is done, it will take weeks or even months (and this may differ for every user) before you get your money back. Since this is a matter of money, GCash and Chubbs must also be involved in the investigation before returning the money. Even before the Send Money Protect feature, users have already experienced this tedious process and waiting periods to refund money over a scam experience.

Users only need to toggle the button next to the “I-protect ang padala kung sakaling ma-scam for only PHP 30!” Text whenever they are ready to send money, and that’s how one can use this feature.
