Dual cameras? Four? Six? Try eight. Huawei is expected to shake the mobile camera technology again, thanks to this latest product leak.
It appears that Huawei submitted a patent filing to the Chinese patent office, about a smartphone that has — wait for it — eight cameras. At this point, we won’t be surprised if phones come with more and more cameras.
The filing shows the back of the device, with all six cameras in a 2×3 orientation. All of them are in a camera bump on the middle, with the wide LED flash on the bottom.
Those who have OCD right there would really appreciate this design. I mean, just look at it. All cameras are lined up perfectly — from biggest to smallest.
It’s not clear what all six cameras can do but. But based on the smartphones that we have right now, we can safely speculate what they are all about. Oh, and since this leak is all about cameras, the patented device might be the upcoming Huawei P40 Pro.

Just like the Huawei P30 Pro, the first two might be 40-megapixel sensors. One for the regular wide lens, while the latter might come with a wide Cine lens.
The third one is a telephoto lens. Huawei might add another ludicrous zoom feature to take on the 100x Space Zoom of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.
As for the last three, we should have the usual suspects. There’s the macro lens, a dedicated depth sensor, and possibly a Time-of-Light (ToF) sensor.
Completing the six-camera setup is the dual cameras on the front. They will be in a punch-hole on the top left of the screen. The first one shall have a 32-megapixel sensor, just like the Mate 30 Pro. The next one could be a depth sensor or — if Huawei is being generous — an ultra-wide lens for group selfies.
