Lenovo have been slowly but surely biulding up their palce in the smartphone market. Their K900 phone had been well-received, with great reviews both from critics and users alike. And why not? It had top-of-the line specs at a very reasonable price. Last September, they unveiled their new flagship, the Vibe X (which will officially launch here in the Philippines later today). Last week, they followed it up with three new phones: the Vibe Z, S930, and S650. While the former is set to go toe-to-toe with other manufacturers’ high-end phablets, the latter two are poised to take positions in the mid-range market.
The S930 is a 6.0″ phablet whose specs seem ready to take on the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Mega. Here are the specs of the S930:
Lenovo S930 Sepcs
- 6″ IPS LCD Capacitive Touchscreen, 720p (1280 x 720 px) and 245 ppi
- Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 Mediatek MT6582 with Mali 400MP GPU
- 8GB ROM, 1GB RAM
- 8 MP rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, 1.6MP front camera
- Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean
- 3000 mAh (Li-polymer), non-removable battery
- microSD Support up to 32GB
- Dolby Digital Plus sound enhancement
- Dual SIM
- HSPA+, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi b/g/n, GPS
Pretty decent specs for a mid-range device. It just comes with one color, silver. Price tag is also set as USD 427, which is roughly PHP 18,861.
The S650, on the other, hand, is the S930’s mini-me version with its internals mostly the same, though with a smaller screen and battery. Here are the specs:
Lenovo S650 Specs
- 4.7″ IPS LCD Capacitive Touchscreen, qHD (540 x 960 px) and 245 ppi
- Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A7 Mediatek MT6582 with PowerVR SGX544 GPU
- 8GB ROM, 1GB RAM
- 8 MP rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, 0.3MP front camera
- Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean
- 2000 mAh (Li-polymer), non-removable battery
- microSD Support up to 32GB
- Dual SIM
- HSPA+, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi b/g/n, GPS
Some key differences with its older brother are its screen, resolution, GPU, audo enhancements (or lack of the Dolby enhancement), front camera, and battery. As such, it also sports a lower price tag of USD 366, or roughly PHP 16,155. At such a relatively small price difference, I think the S930 is a better value overall. Both devices are expected to be available by the end of the month.
