MediaTek is adding a new affordable 5G-enabled chip on its line-up with the MediaTek Dimensity 720.
As per the company, the MediaTek Dimensity 720 is equipped with the most power-efficient 5G modem in this class. With support for 2CC, SA & NSA, and sub-6GHz bands.
Just like the Dimensity 820, it comes with 5G Ultra Save technology that intelligently analyzes the content and network activity to conserve battery in real-time.
The Dimensity 720 packs two 2GHz Cortex-A76 performance cores and six 2GHz Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. It also comes with a Mali G57 MC3 GPU, support for up to 12GB 2133MHz LPDDR4X RAM, and UFS 2.2 storage.
We expect more budget phones to come with high refresh rate displays in the future, just like the Realme 6. With that, the Dimensity 720 comes with 90Hz screen support. It also comes with HDR10+ real-time upscaling and MediaTek MiraVision.
Besides 5G, the new chipset has support for dual-band WiFi, but not WiFi 6. There’s also the power-efficient Bluetooth 5.1. For cameras, it can accommodate up to a 64-megapixel sensor, or a 20-megapixel + 16-megapixel configuration. Video recording caps out at 4K at 30fps.
We expect to see MediaTek Dimensity 720-powered devices to arrive later this year. And now that we have the Dimensity 1000 series for 5G flagships, 800 and 700 series for midranges, it will not be long until MediaTek releases the Dimensity 600 line, which will hopefully bring 5G to entry-level smartphones.
