MediaTek is catching up to the fast charging game.
There’s a bunch of fast charging solutions from different manufacturers out there; Qualcomm’s Quick Charge, Huawei’s SmartPower, and Oppo’s VOOC are the notable ones. MediaTek has its own and it’s getting an update to lower heat emissions and get faster charging times than its current form.
The company claims that Pump Express 3.0 can charge from 0 up to 70% in only 20 minutes, but it didn’t give specific details about the test as well as the battery capacity of the device used. It’s around twice as fast as other charging solutions from other brands and five times faster than regular conventional charging. According to MediaTek, it’s currently the most efficient in the market.

Pump Express 3.0 is the first to use direct charging with the Type-C USB Power Delivery standard. The setup involves bypassing the circuitry that’s being used by other charging solutions. Instead, they are sending power directly to the battery. MediaTek claims that it’s 50% more efficient in power dissipation compared to Pump Express 2.0.
MediaTek has said that Pump Express 3.0 will be built in on the devices using Helio P20 processor later this year. Other SoCs will get support starting next year.
