It looks like we’ll be seeing Zeiss lens back on Nokia handsets again. HMD Global, the one who currently manufactures Nokia smartphones, is now planning to put back Zeiss’ lens technology on their upcoming smartphones.
While Nokia’s current big three line-up is impressive for the price, they aren’t really flagship material. However, HMD Global promised that they are cooking something big that will hopefully bring back Nokia to the way it used to be.
And we can expect Zeiss to have something to do with the huge comeback. For a quick throwback, one of the best camera phones a couple of years ago was the Nokia Lumia 1020. That device gained its reputation due to its large 41.3-megapixel sensor, the intimidating camera bump, and of course — the 7.2mm Zeiss lens.

That’s exactly what HMD Global is trying to bring back. But considering how tough the competition is, they might have a hard time. Also, the engineers who were behind the Lumia and PureView cameras have already moved to Apple. Some of them even left the company after the Microsoft acquisition.
But whatever the case may be, we’re still hopeful that everything works out. This kind of competition is the reason why this industry grows — a big win for the consumers.
