A six-month-long preventive suspension order is being faced by Anti-Red Tape Authority Director-General Jeremiah Belgica after DITO Telecommunity filed a case before the Office of the Ombudsman.

Along with Belgica, other officials in the same agency were also subject to the complaint, which includes Director Melamy Salvadora-Asperin, Director Jedrek Ng, Division Chief Sheryl Pura-Sumagui, and Deputy Director-General Eduardo Bringas, per the order issued May 24, 2022, signed by Ombudsman Samuel Martires.

Filing the complaint is DITO Chief Administrative Officer Adel Tamano who is accusing the ARTA officials of violating Republic Act No. 3018 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, leading to their investigations.

The issue draws from the events of 2018 and 2021 following DITO’s selection as the third major telco player in the country and ARTA’s subsequent issuance of a resolution and order on March 1, 2021, giving the automatic approval of the assignment of frequencies that set NOW Telecom as the third major telco player instead.

The conflict brought NOW to likewise file a complaint against NTC Commissioner Gamaliel Cordova who granted the frequencies that were previously given to DITO.
