PLDT has teamed up with the Cavite local government for a substantial fiber network rollout in the province to turn it into a “smart city.”
The company’s PLDT Enterprise arm, ePLDT, as well as wireless subsidiary Smart Communications, will fire up the Cavite-Managed Broadband Network Service that will equip 23 Cavite cities and municipalities with internet connection.
What’s interesting is, the fiber backbone will be underground.
The PLDT Group is extending its support in laying the groundwork for Cavite’s vision of becoming a smart city. We are delighted to commence this advancement which is a massive move for the development of Cavite,
Manny Pangilinan, PLDT chairman
In a statement, Governor Jonvic Remulla said that the local government recognizes the role of digital innovation for public services and processes. He’s also confident that they can turn Cavite into a smart city with the help of PLDT and Smart.

One of the benefits of this partnership will be the free internet on 129 public elementary and secondary schools and 42 public places close to municipal and city halls.
The entire project aims to cover 2,504 locations and create 4,894 access points through PLDT’s fiber network. ePLDT Vitro will provide data center services.
