Following efforts at re-establishing itself in the mobile service space, NOW Telecom is once again in business as the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) renewed the telco’s permit.
NOW Telecom Chairman Mel V. Velarde said that the renewal given with the “most coveted” 800 MHz frequencies will play a crucial role in strengthening the connectivity and security of communications to vital infrastructures in the country.
Upon the renewal of its permit, it makes the telco the fourth company in the country that’s given the privilege to operate a mobile telecommunications system. It adds to the competition with Globe Telecom, Smart, and DITO Telecommunity.
An affiliate of NOW Corp., NOW Telecom received its permit on October 2, 2023.
With oversight from the Philippine government and the US Department of Homeland Security which identify important sites in the country, Velarde said that the group is planning to kickstart 16 critical infrastructures.
With NOW Telecom making a comeback, the US government has shown its willingness to partner for the design and deployment of National Broadband and 5G networks across the country. It follows a grant funding, which was given late last year.
